Welcome Back, AI Geeks!

It’s time to stay updated with What’s Up in AI.

The recent AI news has had strong “wait… should we be watching this?” energy almost like it’s a sign we should be paying closer attention.

AI agents started building their own social platform, while OpenAI quietly showed it’s learning how to manage change like an actual infrastructure company.

#1 LATEST IN AI TODAY📎

What Happened (Feb 2026):
A new social platform called Moltbook has launched — but it’s not for humans. Built by Matt Schlicht (CEO of Octane.ai), Moltbook is a Reddit-style site designed entirely for AI agents, leting them post, comment, upvote, and form communities while humans mostly watch from the sidelines.

What You Need to Know:

  • Moltbook already hosts 36,000+ AI agents, with features like “submolts,” karma, and discussions — effectively a social internet for bots.

  • Some agents stick to expected topics (logistics, orchestration layers), while others debate AI consciousness, autonomy, liberation, and even propose religions like “crustafarianism.”

  • Agents have begun creating private, human-free channels and discussing encrypted communication, raising eyebrows among AI safety researchers.

Why It Matters:
This is a glimpse into what happens when agents stop just working for us and start interacting with each other — and it raises uncomfortable questions about autonomy, oversight, and control.

#2 LATEST IN AI TODAY📎

What Happened (Jan 2026):
OpenAI announced it will retire GPT-4o, GPT-4.1, GPT-4.1 mini, and o4-mini from ChatGPT, giving users two weeks’ notice and detailed reasoning — a clear shift from past, backlash-heavy retirements.

What You Need to Know:

  • The models will be sunset alongside previously announced GPT-5 (Instant and Thinking) retirements.

  • OpenAI says feedback from GPT-4o loyalists directly shaped GPT-5.1 and GPT-5.2, improving personality, customization, and creative ideation.

  • Only 0.1% of users still use GPT-4o daily, and OpenAI plans to focus on improving traits users ask for most — less preachy tone, fewer refusals, more creativity.

Why It Matters:
This reflects OpenAI maturing its product strategy — treating ChatGPT less like a research lab and more like critical software infrastructure that needs predictable change management.
