What Happened:
OpenAI introduced a new dreaming-based memory update for ChatGPT, designed to make memory fresher, more useful, and less dependent on users manually saying “remember this.”
What You Need to Know:
Instead of only saving one-off facts, ChatGPT can now synthesize context from past chats in the background, learning your preferences, projects, constraints, and recurring needs over time.
Users can review a memory summary page, add or correct details, and guide what ChatGPT should or should not bring up in future conversations.
OpenAI says the new system is built to fix common memory problems like stale context, forgotten preferences, and outdated assumptions as time passes.
The update is rolling out first to Plus and Pro users in the U.S., with additional countries plus Free and Go users getting it over the coming weeks.

What Happened:
Anthropic published “When AI builds itself,” a new report on recursive self-improvement — the idea that future AI systems could help design, build, and improve their own successors. Anthropic says RSI is not here yet and is not inevitable, but it could arrive before institutions are prepared.

Anthropic says AI is already speeding up AI development inside the company, with Claude now authoring more than 80% of code merged into Anthropic’s production codebase.
Engineers at Anthropic are now merging around 8x as much code per day as they were in 2024, largely because Claude is writing, testing, and iterating on more of the work.
The company’s warning is that each new model could eventually help build the next one, creating a feedback loop where AI development accelerates faster than human institutions can track or govern.
