What Happened: OpenAI CEO Sam Altman finally addressed the swirling rumors about GPT-4.5 and GPT-5, bringing clarity to the company's AI model roadmap. Acknowledging that OpenAI's product lineup had become overly complex, Altman outlined plans to simplify ChatGPT's user experience.

  • GPT-4.5 revealed as "Orion" - not the GPT-5 everyone expected

  • Next up, GPT-5 will look more like an all-in-one interface that can handle whatever you throw at it, featuring voice, search, deep research, and more, all in one unified package.

In a surprising move, the US and UK flat-out refused to sign a declaration that 60+ other countries happily backed. The declaration? It was all about making AI "open, inclusive, transparent, ethical, safe, secure and trustworthy." Google's CEO Sundar Pichai set the tone early, calling AI "the most profound shift of our lifetimes."

  • The US didn't give an official explanation, but Vice President J.D. Vance warned about "authoritarian censorship" and excessive regulation
