This is truly fascinating. Three years ago, OpenAI released ChatGPT, and Google lit up Code Red, now, it's OpenAI's turn to release Code Red. A leaked Sam Altman memo shows OpenAI is in “code red” mode and is rolling out a new reasoning model next week that internal tests say outperforms Google’s Gemini 3.
What You Need to Know:
Altman ordered teams to drop everything and fix ChatGPT’s speed, reasoning, and answer accuracy.
Ad products, shopping + health agents, and “ChatGPT Pulse” are paused to redirect compute and staff.
The new model reportedly beats Gemini 3 on internal reasoning benchmarks.
Google’s Gemini usage has surged to ~650M MAUs; OpenAI is attempting to regain model leadership.
Visual quality upgrades (images & video) are also being prioritized due to competitive pressure.
