OpenAI is shutting down Sora, its video generation platform and API, as part of a broader shift in priorities.

Sora has been called a resource drain, with plans to wind down all video products including mobile and API.
Freed compute will go toward “Spud”, a new model expected soon with major economic impact claims.
The Sora team will now focus on “world simulation” for robotics, aiming to automate real-world systems.
