OpenAI’s third annual developer conference, Dev Day 2025, lit up Fort Mason, San Francisco, with over 1,500 developers and partners attending in person. Touted as OpenAI’s “biggest event yet,” it featured live demos, surprise product drops, and a closing fireside chat between Sam Altman and Apple design icon Jony Ive.

What Happened (Oct 6, 2025):
AMD has signed a massive multi-year chip supply deal with OpenAI, agreeing to deliver 6 gigawatts of compute capacity through its next-gen Instinct MI450 GPUs. The partnership could generate tens of billions in revenue for AMD and marks one of the largest single AI hardware contracts in history.
What You Need to Know:
OpenAI will receive its first gigawatt of compute in the second half of 2026, powering new AI infrastructure.
AMD claims the MI450 line will outperform Nvidia’s Rubin CPX chips in efficiency and training speed.
As part of the deal, OpenAI can buy up to 160 million AMD shares, amounting to a 10% stake in the company.
AMD stock surged nearly 35% Monday, closing at $222, after news of the deal broke.
